Spoiler Alert: I was sobbing by the end.

My Old Ass, the new Megan Park movie starring Maisy Stella and Aubrey Plaza, is now on Prime for those of you who have the streaming service. It was a movie I had been dying to watch but, unfortunately, wasn’t in any theaters near me at the time of its release.

The movie follows our main character, Elliott, before she leaves her small town and lives on a cranberry farm to attend college in Toronto. After a night in the woods with her friends, where mushrooms are exchanged, Elliott comes face-to-face with her future self. Very weary of the classic “time travel rules,” the future Elliott tries to share some wisdom of their future and what they should do now without telling her younger self what is to be expected in their future. She also leaves her with the very ominous advice, “Avoid anyone named Chad.”

The movie is incredibly hilarious and heartwarming. With any film about time travel, the sentiment of slowing down and enjoying the “now” to the fullest is always the obvious takeaway. Still, when a movie is genuinely authentic in that message, no matter how many times it’s reiterated, it will hit home. Both older and younger versions of Elliott are so incredible in this movie. They have incredible chemistry and help lead each other in the more sentimental moments of the flick. By the end, which I would like to preface by saying I am a huge softy, the performances of both actresses had me crying at the thought of life, love, and the bravery of being young and dumb.
