The JPCU is expanding people. (Jordan Peele Cinematic Universe).

Nope will not be for everyone but for those who get it, you’re invited to movie night at my house. This movie feels almost like a love letter to those that came before it, taking major inspiration from the likes of “Jaws” and “Signs” but making it, its very own in true Peele fashion.

I never really find myself interested in aliens flicks, except for some of the classics, but Peele has yet to let me down.

From early on in the teasers being released, there was a lot left to the imagination of what was going on. Then when the first official trailer dropped, you would think from the initial watch that this was just another alien movie, but upon further watching, you’ll see you’re extremely wrong.

The twists and overall movie surpassed my expectations but I can see how not everyone going to enjoy this movie. The movie takes an extremely shocking turn. I have seen people say that this turned them off to the movie, which I understand. I personally didn’t find this a turn-off but rather increased my interest and my overall fear levels.

Not very often does a movie make me feel uneasy and legit have me on the edge of my seat. Jordan has done it again, truly cementing himself as an innovator in the genre. All characters had my concern and rooted for them, but none more than Emerald Haywood played by Keke Palmer. She was the heart of the project and I need her name to be mentioned come awards season.

I know horror is usually the black sheep/ugly stepchild when it comes to Oscar nominations. Making the snub of Lupita Nyong’o for her role in Us make sense, in no way does it hurt any less but it makes sense. I do have hope that since this is an alien flick, I do think the academy will look over its horror themes and give it a couple of nominations.

Overall, this movie is one you’re especially going to want to watch in the theaters. Definition of “popcorn in the theater flick”.
